My name is Clayton. I am the breeder behind Top Notch Portuguese Water Dogs.
I was blessed to grow up in the mountains of Western North Carolina. My mother was my biggest influence. She has always embraced family pets in our home. She was raised on a farm and practiced husbandry from a young age. In 2020, she left her fulltime job as the manager of a local hospital department to pursue a fulltime career in breeding, boarding, and training dogs. This career change allowed her to be home and available at all times for myself, my brother, and my sister. I greatly admired her love for animals and success in business and wished to pursue a hobby involving canines for myself. After much research, I chose to purchase my first Porguguese Water Dog, Gwen. Gwen has been a faithful and loyal companion from day one. I have enjoyed her playful personality and her will to please. Gwen's energy level and the companionship she provides is exactly what I was looking for in a dog. After falling in love with the breed, I decided to move forward with my hobby of responsibly breeding Portuguese Water Dogs. My mother has been a wonderful mentor. She has taught me about genetics, structure, temperament, training health, and so much more. She has coached me in making sure my dogs are suitable breeders prior to breeding them. I have followed her health testing protocol that includes genetic and orthopedic testing so that I can produce "top notch" Portuguese Water Dog puppies. I'm excited about this part of my life and look forward to placing amazing companions from my program with families across the United States! |
